Estonian Air carried 557 456 passengers last year

In 2009 Estonian Air carried altogether 557, 456 passengers, 509,771 of these on regular flights. The total number of passengers decreased 25.8% y-o-y, on regular flights 25.6%. The load factor was approximately 60%.

In December Estonian Air carried 32,931 passengers, out of which 30,416 on regular flights. The number of passengers on regular flights decreased 16.9% y-o-y. The total number of passengers on Estonian Air flights decreased 16.1% y-o-y.  
 
“Last year was challenging, but relatively successful for Estonian Air: our company adapted its operations in accordance with the changes in the market, in particular to the decrease in demand, by making its activities more effective and by optimising costs,” comments Rauno Parras, Estonian Airs Vice President Commercial.
„This year we expect the decline in demand to stabilize and during the summer period to see some recovery. Estonian Air continues to focus on its customer service and on the development of air connections that are essential for Estonia,” continued Parras.
 
In 2009 the market share of Estonian Air in the regular flights segment at Tallinn Airport reached the highest level of recent years 46%, which is 0.2 percentage points higher y-o-y. The total market share (regular and charter flights) was 41.4%, which is 0.1 percentage points lower y-o-y.
 
In 2009 Estonian Air operated 10,181 flights, which is 19.8% less flights y-o-y. In December 662 flights were operated, which is 7.8% less flights y-o-y.
 
Estonian Air belongs to the most punctual air carriers in Europe. In 2009the 15-minute punctuality was 90.3%, which is almost 5 percentage points (4.8%) higher y-o-y.
The regularity of Estonian Air stayed more or less on the same level, decreased by 0.5 percentage points.
 
According to summaries, the fastest-growing destination in 2009 was Vilnius with a 12% growth y-o-y. Good results were also on the Stockholm, Copenhagen, Minsk and Moscow routes.
The most popular summer destinations were Rome and Barcelona. Very well accepted new destinations were St Petersburg and Amsterdam.
The number of transit passengers grew most on the Copenhagen and Stockholm routes, which clearly shows the growing importance of those transit hubs for travellers to and from Tallinn.
