Estonian Air history
Estonia’s national airline Estonian Air was created as a state-owned public limited company on 1st of December 1991 immediately after the restoration of Estonian independence.In 1996, the Estonian state decided to privatise the airline and 66% of the shares were put on sale. Danish aviation company Maersk Air in cooperation with Estonian investment company Baltic Cresco Investment Group won the privatization competition, and thereby 34% of the shares belonged to the Estonian state, 17% to Baltic Cresco Investment Group, and 49% to Maersk Air.
In 2003, Maersk Air sold its 49% share to SAS Group.
As of today, the owners of Estonian Air are the Estonian state (34%), AS Cresco (17%) and the SAS Group (49%).
